How To Get The Most Out Of Your Videos

A person in a blue button down shirt sits behind a tablet. A video player hovers over the tablet and they reach toward it with their right hand.

I recently wrapped up a video project with a client. They were SO excited!

“We love it!” they said.

“What do we do with it now?”

As I answered that question for them, I realized some of you may have the same question.

So, here’s a quick list of what to do with your shiny new video:

  1. PUT IT ON YOUR WEBSITE

Great videos both build your authority as the guide your clients need and can help your SEO.

That’s why I’m a huge fan of making sure your video ends up somewhere on your website.

    • For a core messaging or customer testimonial video, consider putting it on your homepage.

    • For more niche videos, such as how-to and explainer videos, put them in a blog article or a content pillar page

As you build out your website’s video library, you’re creating a rich resource for clients (both current and potential) to understand what you have to offer and build a connection with you.

  2. SEND IT TO YOUR EMAIL LIST

Did you know that including a video in your marketing email can increase your open rate by 19%, click-throughs by 65% and reduce unsubscribes by 26%? (Source: Campaign Monitor)

So, make sure you share your videos with your email list.

    Need I say more?

    A few best practices:

    1. Send one video per email, mixing them in with your regular content. (And don’t spam people. Ever.)

    2. Most popular email programs won’t open a directly embedded video, so use a screen shot or GIF from your video player instead and link directly to your video.

    3. A lot of people will watch videos on mobile devices, so use a video player like YouTube or Vimeo that automatically adjusts the size and streaming quality to fit their device.

  3. USE IT ON SOCIAL MEDIA

Whether you’re hiring a pro or doing it DIY, making great videos is an investment

So, you want to get as much mileage as possible out of each and every one.

Social media is the perfect place to do that. 2022 video trends are showing that shorter content (often 30 seconds or less) is the way to go on most platforms.

That means you can both make shorter videos and take that longer video content you have and cut it up!

Repurposing is a great way to both feed the content monster and leverage the algorithms in your favor.

While you’re editing for socials, keep an eye on your aspect ratios. Vertical video is here to stay on a lot of platforms. Using the wrong size and framing is a quick way to appear irrelevant.

And keep in mind there are exceptions to every rule. While short videos are trending on most platforms, you should always know what your audience is looking for.

Here’s to getting the most bang for your buck!
